Nettie's Bees Story
Nestled in the rural town of Rochester, Massachusetts, Nettie's Bees began with a simple passion that crossed continents and generations. Our journey is one of heritage and a deep connection to the natural world.
Nerija Kupryte-Hopkins, known as "Nettie", is the heart and soul behind every jar of honey and handcrafted product we offer. Born in Lithuania, a small Baltic country rich in beekeeping tradition, Nettie learned the art and science of beekeeping under her father's guidance. These childhood lessons, passed down through generations, instilled in her a love for bees and the world they support.
Years later, after building a new life in America with her husband Tom and their two children, Nettie's beekeeping skills found unexpected purpose in the cranberry bogs of South Coast Massachusetts. What began as assisting a local cranberry grower with one hive became two, two became four, and a local business was born.
Our approach to honey
At Nettie's Bees, we believe honey should be experienced as nature intended. Each jar of our local honey is:
Raw and unfiltered, preserving the natural enzymes, pollen, and flavor profiles
Seasonally harvested, capturing the unique floral character of different times of year
Reflective of our local landscape, from cranberry bogs to wildflower meadows
Minimally processed, just lightly strained to remove large particles while maintaining all beneficial components
Visit the Honey House
The heart of our operation is the now-famous "Honey House" located at Nettie and Tom's Rochester home. This charming space showcases our complete product line and offers visitors a glimpse into the world of beekeeping
